Design

The obverse of the T-68 features a striking central vignette of a horse-drawn artillery battery in motion — a powerful wartime image that captures the military spirit of the Confederacy. Flanking the vignette are bold ornate lathe-work borders, large “10” numeral medallions, and the text “THE CONFEDERATE STATES OF AMERICA – TEN DOLLARS” along with the Richmond, Virginia dating, handwritten serial number 17080, plate letter F, and period signatures of Confederate treasury officials. The reverse displays the classic teal/green Confederate back design with large “TEN” lettering and four ornate “10” corner medallions.

Historical Significance

The 1864 series was the last currency ever issued by the Confederate States of America. By this point in the war, Confederate currency had been ravaged by hyperinflation — a $10 note that might have purchased a week’s groceries in 1861 could barely buy a loaf of bread by early 1865. When General Robert E. Lee surrendered at Appomattox in April 1865, these notes became worthless overnight.

Most were discarded, destroyed, or lost to time. Survivors today are genuine relics of a nation that existed for just four years, making every authentic Confederate note a remarkable piece of American history over 160 years old.

A Note on Condition

This note is offered ungraded and unencapsulated, allowing collectors to evaluate the note directly from the photos. Raw Confederate notes offer excellent value for collectors who prefer to examine pieces firsthand or submit them for grading themselves. All sales are final — please review all photos carefully before purchasing.

Own a genuine piece of Civil War history — the 1864 Confederate $10 T-68 S/N 17080 is an authentic 160-year-old artifact from the most defining conflict in American history.
